The New MPIX Tap To Print App (It’s Not What I Thought It Would Be)


My friends over at MPIX just released a new app. But it’s totally not what I thought it was going to be. It’s geared toward exactly what I always find myself telling people to do – print your cell phone photos.

I downloaded it last night. In about 1 minute I had an order ready to go to print using my existing MPIX account. It was really simple and very well done considering the goal is to get you to turn your cell phone photos into prints. My favorite thing is that there’s NOT a ton of options. You get to choose between 4×6 or 5×7. Color or Black and White. You can rotate and crop. And you can choose between their matte-finish or metallic paper. That’s it.

Note: Last time I did this I took a bunch of heat but I’m doing it again (and will continue to do it) because I REALLY believe in the concept of printing your cell phone photos. Anyone that makes it easier in my book is worth mentioning. So if it bothers you just move on. Don’t leave a nasty comment. Because then I’ll have to leave one back, and our day will then become embroiled in nasty-comment-ness :)

    Its the camera that most every photographer has with them every minuite of their waking hours, so logically there should be some images taken that you would love to have printed. MPIX provides that solution. They are my GoTo Photo Lab!

    How very dare you! Posting useful, photography related information on a photography blog. You animal! May your camels forever itch.

    I assume the ranters are upset about cell phone cameras? It’s a tool, they’re vaguely ok these days, good in great light. You just have to understand the tools limitations and its characteristics and play to its strengths. Even a 1d x has limitations, as does a medium format back. Sure they are generally fixed wide angles with tiny ass sensors, but thats part of the fun of using them, plus they are extremely convienient.

    How good is mpix? Right now I use adorama for personal stuff under 11×17 (and for family photobooks) and a local professional printer for all work and large personal stuff. I know its tough to compare as some areas are subjective, but if I’m going to do a side by side against adorama what would you predict I would notice improvement wise?
